Why would you need to anyway? The idea is supposed to be that you have it for disaster recovery when you can't boot your computer or whatever. It seems only restore capability is necessary from the recovery CD. I believe the recovery CD does allow something like cloning a hard drive though. Is this what you might be remembering?
