All nodes in the cluster containing the SQL Server instance are updated in the same time. Best Regards, Peja Please remember to click "Mark as Answer" on the post that helps you, and to click "Unmark as Answer" if a marked post does not actually answer your question.
This can be beneficial to other community members reading the thread. It should all work in theory, the better option is to patch each node, e. I would suggest installing it on the active node and it should update all the other nodes. Most of the times problem happens due to inappropriate permissions, unfixed issues from previous installations , someprocess hindering the install process etc as main reasons as to why installs like this fails. Ask a question. Quick access. Restored latency is 6 minutes. Check agent log and logshipping monitor information. The step failed. I would add ensure any server level triggers are disabled and take normal system db backups as well as a belt and braces approach.
I highly recommend taking file copies of the system dbs before and after though, including mssqlsystemresource. Ken Davis. Those are good instructions but I have never had to install a SQL service pack manually on both cluster nodes active then passive. I always run the SP on the active node and the SP takes care of the install on the passive node at the same time.
I want to ask why do we need to apply the patch on the passive node? I would have thought applying to the Active node would write to both underlying nodes but is it does as a precautionary step or is there something reason? I just want to understand what SQL is doing and not to question your step process! Perry Whittle. If you removed builtin administrators from SQL Server then manually ensure the windows account you are installing as has been provisioned appropriately. SQL Server uses task scheduler service to install the patch on the remote node as well.
SO you don't have to install the patch separately on the passive node. Many times the remote task SQL setup would get created but it wont run on the passive node due to some issue. Resolved my issue. Clear instructions. Easy to follow. No jargon. Pictures helped. Didn't match my screen. Incorrect instructions. Too technical. Not enough information. Not enough pictures. Any additional feedback?
