Short of doing that I would like to know if there's any driver updates anyone could recommend. I'm using the driver that came with the card. It's been working fine overall but I do have some weird problems occasionally like games not showing intro screens or objects not appearing correctly some times.
I'm running the 6. Is there a better recommended driver for this card or am I better to not mess with it as long as it's working mostly OK? Are there any known issues with any of the available driver updates I should be aware of?
Otherwise keep your current. So far so good. I installed the No sticking, lost objects, wire frames or weirdness any more. Pros: Excellent game performance and DVD playback.
No fan means one less noisemaker in my case that already has three fans pumping air in and out. Cons: I can't get the GPU core temp to drop below 68 degrees Celcius at idle and it jumps up into the 80s after only about minutes of playing a 3D-intense game. Not horrible, but I figured the temps would be better since I have a case fan blowing directly on the card. I imagine the temps without a case fan blowing on the card are even hotter.
Overall Review: This might not be the card for you if you play games at the maximum video performance level for hours and hours without stopping. I bet some gamers could probably reach the core slowdown temp of degrees after a few hours of hardcore gaming. Cons: I have a weird issue when I cut or delete files in Windows where the screen will go black for a second.
The screen also goes black several times when accessing the Nvidia control panel. I think this may be driver related, but still quite annoying. I have two of these cards and I can run all the games I play at x with all the eye candy turned on and I experience no issues. I would highly recommend this card for someone looking for a silent SLI setup. Pros: No Fan, which is why I bought the card. Also can support SLI. Make that 20 minutes, just to be safe. Among our actively-cooled cards, GPU temperatures only vary a couple of degrees.
Power consumption We measured system power consumption, sans monitor and speakers, at the wall outlet using a Watts Up power meter. Power consumption was measured at idle and under load using the same conditions as our noise level tests. The GeForce series is very frugal when it comes to power consumption, and none of the cards emerges as a clear winner in this test. Adding a second card increases power use, too, especially under load, where we see the dual GeForce GT OC configuration pulling 54 W more from the wall than a single-card setup.
However, as always with overclocking, your mileage may vary. We ran the utility three times on each card and chose a clock speed based on the consensus of those results. The cards were then run through F. However, since it uses the same graphics chip as the GT, just with significantly lower default clock speeds, there should be more headroom. Even then, the performance gain is relatively modest, just as it is with the other cards.
If you tend to upgrade often and resell used hardware, the additional warranty coverage will certainly have value, but it may not add much appeal for most folks. Prove it! Also multiple reviews on newegg are giving XFX cards high marks.
So can you prove your statement or have you just had some bad luck? I listed but it should be I'll fix. Edit: man I'm totally confused.
Do you mean the PenstarSys link? Ah, yeah, they had the "Superclocked" model. JBI have you noticed that your gs gets as hot as the one tested here? I mean degrees C is horrible. The abuse of them is getting out of hand. How about specific pledge drives from readers for fresh cash to fund desired reviews?
Id have liked to see a default clocked GS in there…so far hardly anyones reviewed them properly, and theres plenty of them on the market. However, I would like to run some DX9 screensavers that I have downloaded but they cause the fan to spin up. I only wish I could run the screensavers downloaded from ATI without the fan spinning up. Screw that bezier crap. I dont know … ATI cards would be available or not… but thanks for the suggestion i will try to see for it….
In fact, the gt seems to beat the ultra too or in the worst case is at least as fast, save synthetic single-texture benchmarks. Kudos on the focus on midranges. So, when can we hope for some AM2 benchies? How high can you get yours? That is a shame about eVGA. I am surprised. A Roundup like this can be good publicity, especially if you are confident of your product and your offerings. Too many reviews at other sites I read DO come across as big ads instead of a true critical analysis of the product offering.
Thank you for sticking to your high standards. If memory serves, you only do that when it is necessary, which is great. It has made a difference in FEAR though. You guys did the right thing IMO. Screw them; kudos to you; stay that way. About the lack of EVGA, who cares. You actually offered a great selection of cards because they were all different in one way or another. Sure, there are differences in warranty, and special offers like Step-up and free tech support, but we can figure those out on our own.
Incedentally, I was browsing around an online etailer yesterday and saw that they negotiate with major online review sites as far as providing products to review. Perhaps this might help you. Guys, about eVGA. We mulled it over and after the GPU launch just after it, in March , we decided to do a round-up—in part because we thought we could get all of the big names to send review units.
We then asked eVGA for cards for this and the round-up. This is probably one of the coolest looking graphics cards I have seen in a while. UV reactive DVI connectors which I don't get if you connect a cable to it , completely stealthy black PCB design reference based , interesting cooler shim. It simply is one dangerously cool dude to look at. Since this is an extreme edition obviously you'll receive higher clocks straight out of the box.
So on default you'll get a little more performance straight out of the box. The price tag will be slightly higher though, yet not much as XFX did save money on the software bundle And you know what, there's nothing wrong with that. There's nothing much to be said here other then you'll receive the basics to get started.
